How to Support Your Body Through the Holidays

How to Support Your Body Through the Holidays

Your guide to staying grounded, energized, and well — even during travel, indulgent meals, and seasonal stress.

The holiday season is a beautiful blend of joy, celebration, and connection… but also late nights, travel, rich foods, irregular routines, and a whole lot of stress on the body. It’s no surprise that this time of year is when digestion slows, inflammation ramps up, and hydration takes a hit.

At Well-Rooted Health Collective, we help patients navigate the holidays feeling nourished instead of depleted — without restriction, guilt, or unrealistic expectations. It’s all about supporting the body’s natural systems so you can feel your best while still enjoying every part of the season.

Here are simple, effective ways to help your digestion, hydration, mood, and inflammation support your body through the holiday hustle.

1. Support Digestion Before, During & After Indulgent Meals

Heavier meals, travel days, and unpredictable eating patterns can leave you feeling bloated, uncomfortable, or sluggish. You don’t need a strict reset — just a few targeted habits.

Try these digestion-supportive strategies:

  • Start with a protein-rich breakfast to help stabilize blood sugar.
  • Chew slowly — it signals digestive enzymes and reduces bloating.
  • Add fiber and color where you can (berries, leafy greens, roasted veggies).
  • Go for a short walk after meals to support digestion and blood sugar.
  • Eat in a relaxed state — deep breaths before eating really do help.

If your digestion consistently struggles this time of year (gas, bloating, constipation, nausea, fatigue), it may be a sign your gut or inflammatory pathways need deeper evaluation — something we address every day at Well-Rooted Health Collective.

2. Hydrate Like It Matters (Because It Does)

When routines shift, hydration is usually the first thing to go — and dehydration quickly leads to headaches, fatigue, constipation, poor skin, and increased inflammation.

Hydration tips that actually work:

  • Start your day with electrolytes, not plain water.
  • Bring a water bottle everywhere, especially if you’re traveling by air.
  • Choose hydrating foods like fruit, soups, and herbal teas.
  • Aim for consistent sipping throughout the day instead of chugging.

Travel Tip:

Airplanes are extremely dehydrating. A mineral packet in your water can be the difference between feeling energized all weekend or dragging for days.

3. Keep Inflammation Stable Through Stress & Indulgence

Holiday foods, alcohol, sugar, less sleep, and higher stress can all activate inflammatory pathways in the body. You don’t need to avoid the fun — you just need to support recovery.

Try:

  • Prioritizing protein at each meal
  • Adding a colorful plant food once or twice a day
  • Getting sunlight or bright light in the morning
  • Moving your body—walk, stretch, anything that gets circulation going
  • Limiting back-to-back late nights
  • Staying mindful with alcohol (hydration before + after)

Inflammation isn’t the enemy — but unmanaged inflammation is. Supporting it now helps you feel calmer, clearer, and more balanced through the season.

4. Create Small Moments of Regulation

Holiday stress can overwhelm even the most regulated nervous system. A few intentional resets make a huge difference.

Try these:

  • 4–5 slow breaths before meals
  • A quiet moment in the car before going into gatherings
  • Lower lights in the evenings
  • Earbuds/noise reduction in overstimulating environments
  • A quick walk outside to ground your nervous system

These micro-breaks support digestion, mood, immunity, and your adrenal system — something we evaluate often at Well-Rooted Health Collective.

6. When to Consider a Functional Assessment

If you notice recurring issues like:

  • bloating after most meals
  • headaches
  • joint stiffness
  • low energy
  • mood changes
  • weakened immunity
  • sleep disruptions

…it may be time for a deeper look at gut health, inflammation, nutrient levels, stress hormones, or immune patterns.

This is exactly what we help you uncover — and we build personalized plans that support you long after the holiday lights come down.

We have used Jessica for several years now. She takes time and care when seeing her patients. My husband and I will always feel like she saved our baby. Our youngest was sick and then ended up with RSV and pneumonia. It was Jessica who kept in touch with and made sure our daughter received the best care.

I recently moved here from out of state and have been having a very hard time finding providers in the area for my kids. After a long search, I found Well Rooted and am so happy I did. Excellent providers who truly care, who listen to the parents and child and are very knowledgeable. It is worth the drive and the cost.

Where do I begin????? I’m going to begin by telling you all a little back history about how I found this Diamond. I went through the wringer with my toddler since the day she was born. Doctors under the sun couldn’t give me anything but short answers, I paid so much money for better care and I was tossed around with questions and no answers. My baby was in need of somebody to just examine her properly and no matter how hard I looked it seemed impossible. that was in the past, until Jessica welcomed us with open arms, found the problem and continues to bless us with answers to our concerns by addressing them in a way that nobody ever has. We have seen major improvements in our daughter by following everything Jessica says, if you got to this page, I highly reccomend her. My daughter has seen so many doctors, been poked and pronged so many times that she doesn’t even like to be seen anymore. Trauma. But Jessica is patient, and kind. And she will find a way to get them to like her. My kid smiled for her and that was enough for me. And our kids have the same exact birthday, which felt like another sign to me!
Through our office visit, never once did I feel rushed or nervous. She never judged us for our choices as parents, and she always led us into a better path. Because of Jessica our daughter has a chance at a positive life with a promising future and I could not be more happy to have found her. This woman knows her stuff and she actually cares about people. I’ve never met someone in the medica field that I trust more than I trust her. I don’t know what I would do without her, I feel so grateful and I literally cried after our first visit when she gave us answers… and that’s how much I got out of her visit. Happy tears!!! Please don’t ever leave Jessica!!!Thank you Jessica.

As an overwhelmed expecting mother, I was becoming extremely defeated as I interviewed pediatricians to help me care for my son when he arrived. As a nurse, I was searching for someone collaborative, respectful, patient, and would be able to provide insight and guidance with more depth than what I could quickly access on a Google search. Jessica and the staff of Well Rooted is a God-send, exceeding my expectations every visit! Jessica is extremely present during very visits, despite whatever is happening outside the exam room door. She is incredibly kind, gentle, patient and with excellent clinical skills and judgement! She has also been immediately available to me via phone on the weekend, when I have had a concern. I just love her and the entire staff at Well Rooted so much and I couldn’t recommend them enough!

We LOVE Jessica and the team at Well Rooted, and are so glad we made the choice to take our son there. I love their natural, holistic approach so much, my husband and I just started going to their adult practice, Functional Medicine. We’ll never go anywhere else!
