Is It Time for a Root Cause Visit?

Have you ever felt like your symptoms were being dismissed, band-aided with medications, or treated in isolation? Maybe you’ve bounced from specialist to specialist, or been told “everything looks normal”
But you still don’t feel well.

If this sounds familiar, it might be time for a different approach.

At Well-Rooted, we believe symptoms are your body’s way of communicating that something is out of balance. Instead of silencing those messages, we dig deeper to uncover the why behind the symptoms. This is the heart of a root cause visit.

Let’s explore what that means for kids, adults, and women.

For Kids: When to Consider a Root Cause Pediatric Visit

If your child is constantly getting sick, struggling with rashes or eczema, experiencing frequent stomach aches, or showing signs of anxiety, ADHD, or behavior changes, it may be more than “just a phase.”

Many of the children we see at Well-Rooted Pediatrics have:

  • Recurrent ear infections or strep throat
  • Gut issues like constipation, bloating, or food intolerances
  • Eczema, hives, or mysterious rashes
  • Behavioral shifts or developmental regressions

We go beyond symptom management to evaluate their immune health, gut microbiome, environmental exposures (like mold or toxins), nutrient deficiencies, and more. Our functional medicine approach allows us to support your child’s long-term health with root-focused solutions.

And for families who travel to Crystal Lake or Oak Brook, we also offer primary and sick visits for children. In these visits we bring that same thoughtful, whole-child approach to everyday care.

For Adults: When Symptoms Don’t Have Simple Answers

Feeling burned out, anxious, foggy, or inflamed? Struggling with fatigue that won’t lift or a diagnosis that doesn’t feel like the whole story?

Adults come to Well-Rooted Health Collective when they’re tired of quick fixes and are ready to understand what their body is really trying to say. Common root cause visit reasons include:

  • Thyroid dysfunction, even with “normal labs”
  • Autoimmune symptoms or diagnoses
  • Mold, parasite, or chronic infection concerns
  • Gut-brain symptoms like anxiety, depression, or IBS
  • Fatigue, hormone shifts, or stubborn weight gain

We partner with you to create a healing plan rooted in functional and integrative care. We also offer primary and sick care visits in our Crystal Lake office as well as telehealth for chronic or functional concerns for patients in IL, WI, & FL.

For Women: When Hormone Health Needs a Bigger Picture

Too often, women are told their hormone symptoms are “just aging,” “just stress,” or worse… “just normal.”

If you’re experiencing mood swings, painful periods, fertility struggles, low libido, fatigue, or perimenopause/menopause symptoms that are interfering with your life, it’s time to dig deeper.

A root cause visit at Well-Rooted Women may explore:

  • Estrogen dominance, progesterone deficiency, or adrenal imbalance
  • Gut and liver detox function and how it impacts hormones
  • Inflammation or nutrient deficiencies
  • Nervous system regulation and stress response

You deserve a provider who listens, investigates, and understands how the whole body is connected. We offer everything from hormone panels and Dutch testing to pelvic support therapies, nutrition, and targeted supplementation.

We love this office! Jessica was the first practitioner to tell me about sublingual therapy allergy drops for environmental allergies. I had 3 out of 4 of my kids suffer from extreme eczema. Daily itching, bleeding, open wounds. Other doctors and allergist just told me to keep putting lotion on because it was due to dry skin. Believe me when I say I lathered my kids multiple times a day and tried every natural product out there and it didn’t help! Steroid cream was the only thing that was able to calm it down but it would come right back once we stopped using it. Well, a year into the allergy drops and my kids have beautiful eczema free skin! No more tears, no more fear of swimming pools and fear of infections. All thanks to the wonderful providers at Well-Rooted Pediatrics!! They truly care and think outside the box to get to the root of the problem. I am forever grateful for them!

Valerie is absolutely amazing!!! Our family feels so blessed to have been able to work with her. My son was diagnosed with Vitiligo, and with Valerie’s direction we have seen such a change in him. We were provided with so much information and finally have hope!

As an overwhelmed expecting mother, I was becoming extremely defeated as I interviewed pediatricians to help me care for my son when he arrived. As a nurse, I was searching for someone collaborative, respectful, patient, and would be able to provide insight and guidance with more depth than what I could quickly access on a Google search. Jessica and the staff of Well Rooted is a God-send, exceeding my expectations every visit! Jessica is extremely present during very visits, despite whatever is happening outside the exam room door. She is incredibly kind, gentle, patient and with excellent clinical skills and judgement! She has also been immediately available to me via phone on the weekend, when I have had a concern. I just love her and the entire staff at Well Rooted so much and I couldn’t recommend them enough!

We are new patients at Well-Rooted. We were greeted by the friendly receptionist who answered all our questions. Even though it’s a temporary location, it was very well organized and clean. We saw Allison for our visit. She was knowledgeable, friendly and took the time to listen and answer any of our questions. She put our children at ease and made the appointment very easy. We are so grateful for this pediatric office and look forward to building a relationship with the staff!

This place has been a blessing to my family. We come from Aurora and don’t mind the drive. The whole staff and the DR are very knowledgeable and helpful. This is our first baby and in great hands.
