Breast Implant Illness: Understanding the Connection to Your Health

At Well-Rooted, we prioritize uncovering the root causes of health challenges to help you achieve your optimal well-being. Breast Implant Illness (BII) is a complex and often misunderstood condition that we’re committed to addressing with compassion and evidence-based care.

What is Breast Implant Illness?

Breast Implant Illness refers to a constellation of symptoms that some individuals experience after receiving breast implants. While not officially recognized as a medical diagnosis, many women report improvements in their health after implant removal, suggesting a potential link.

Common symptoms associated with BII include:

  • Chronic fatigue and brain fog
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Hair loss and skin rashes
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Autoimmune-like symptoms (e.g., inflammation, sensitivity to certain foods or chemicals)
  • Anxiety or depression

BII may affect individuals with both silicone and saline implants, regardless of the type of implant or the reason for the surgery.

What Causes BII?

While the exact cause of BII is not fully understood, possible contributing factors include:

  • Immune System Response: The body may react to the implant materials, leading to inflammation or autoimmune-like symptoms.
  • Biotoxin Build-up: Saline implants can sometimes develop mold or biofilm, releasing harmful toxins.
  • Silicone Leaks or Ruptures: Even microscopic silicone particles can trigger adverse reactions.
  • Chemical Sensitivity: Implants contain various chemicals, which may impact sensitive individuals.

How Well-Rooted Can Help

At Well-Rooted, we approach BII with a holistic lens to support your journey back to health:

  • Personalized Functional Medicine Care: We tailor your care plan to address inflammation, detoxification, and immune system support.
  • Advanced Testing: Comprehensive testing helps identify underlying imbalances, including hormonal disruptions, toxic burden, and autoimmune markers.

  • Collaborative Care: If implant removal is part of your recovery, we can coordinate with experienced surgeons while providing pre- and post-explant support.

We love this office! Jessica was the first practitioner to tell me about sublingual therapy allergy drops for environmental allergies. I had 3 out of 4 of my kids suffer from extreme eczema. Daily itching, bleeding, open wounds. Other doctors and allergist just told me to keep putting lotion on because it was due to dry skin. Believe me when I say I lathered my kids multiple times a day and tried every natural product out there and it didn’t help! Steroid cream was the only thing that was able to calm it down but it would come right back once we stopped using it. Well, a year into the allergy drops and my kids have beautiful eczema free skin! No more tears, no more fear of swimming pools and fear of infections. All thanks to the wonderful providers at Well-Rooted Pediatrics!! They truly care and think outside the box to get to the root of the problem. I am forever grateful for them!

Jessica is the absolute BEST! We brought our newborn daughter to Well-Rooted days after she was born for her first appointment with Jessica and she took excellent care of her/us. Extremely informative and made us feel very comfortable with any questions we had. We are very confident in our choice with Well-Rooted and are going to continue to see Jessica as long as we live in the area. Highly recommended!

We love Well-Rooted Pediatrics. On every visit I feel like Jessica listens to my concerns and cares about my opinions on things regarding my kids. She looks at the whole child and treats the body from the inside out while still knowing there’s a time and place for medicine. With this approach I absolutely trust her and the care she provides for my four kids. Highly recommend, your family will love her too!!

Jessica, Jacki and all the Well Rooted Staff are amazing. Our Pediatrician retired a few years back and we were in limbo for several years, never feeling like any Dr we saw actually listened to us. After our 1st visit at Well Rooted we knew we finally found “the one”. They listen and take the time to discuss options. They support the patient and put YOU 1st.
