Sublingual Immunotherapy for Seasonal Allergy Treatment

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) is a safe and effective treatment option for allergies to dust mites, pollen, ragweed, cat dander, and grass.

SLIT has also been shown to be effective in some cases of childhood eczema, and are also being studied for treatment of food allergies, and other allergens.

‍⚕️ If you or your child suffers from allergies, speak with us about allergy testing to determine your sensitivities. Once we know what you’re allergic to, we can formulate a treatment plan which may include sublingual therapies.

SLIT can be in pill or liquid form and is administered under the tongue, and then swallowed after a minute or two. The treatment is repeated multiple times a week, sometimes daily, and may need to be continued for a few years to build up the body’s natural immunity to the allergen.

When the drops are placed under the tongue, there is an entire scientific process that happens. We have a lot of cells under our tongue called dendrites cells. These cells carry the allergens in the drops to the helper cells in the body that are responsible for our immune response. Through this constant communication, the body starts to recognize the allergens as a normal response and symptoms subside. Overtime, the allergens dissipate, and the child can live freely without debilitating symptoms.

Some frequently asked questions about SLIT:

IS IT SAFE? Yes! SLIT is very safe, for both adults and children as young as 4 months. It is safer and gentler than shots and is able to be administered at home once allergy testing is done and a care plan is established by your provider.

DOES IT REALLY WORK? Yep! Many published scientific studies have shown that it significantly reduces allergy symptoms. SLIT is repeated throughout the allergy season, or sometimes year round, and is recommended to be continued for 3-5 years to help the body build lasting, lifelong immunity.

DOES INSURANCE COVER IT? Unfortunately, most insurance plans do not cover SLIT. We offer many payment options and we can also provide a superbill to be submitted to insurance if you’d like to try for coverage assistance. SLIT is pretty economical, however, especially when compared to allergy shots. SLIT averages to about $45/month. For root cause treatment and lasting relief from allergies, the cost is worth it!

HOW DO IT GET IT? Make an appointment with us or your pediatrician for a visit where we will discuss your individual needs, any testing or additional treatments needed, and develop a plan. Once a plan is a established, it’s possible to administer future doses of SLIT from the comfort of home.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Cost is specific per patient based on the unique plan developed by the provider, but it averages around $45/month.

IS TREATMENT CUSTOMIZED? Yes, SLIT treatment is specific to each child. We will see your child for a visit where we will determine what testing is needed in order to develop a customized plan.

At Well-Rooted, the testing we provide looks for allergens, candida, and sometimes even work up for the gut. Based on the findings, we work with the patient 1:1, the Functional Nutritionists, apply dietary changes, and supplement regimens to heal the body and bring it back to the level of homeostasis and normalcy.

By far the best place people to have around to take your kiddos to! Not only are they great at what they do but my kids feel comfortable with each and every staff member. Jessica and Jackie are so caring and knowledgeable.

Jessica, Jacki and all the Well Rooted Staff are amazing. Our Pediatrician retired a few years back and we were in limbo for several years, never feeling like any Dr we saw actually listened to us. After our 1st visit at Well Rooted we knew we finally found “the one”. They listen and take the time to discuss options. They support the patient and put YOU 1st.

We don’t go to the Crystal Lake Well Rooted anymore since we moved going over to OakBrook. We saw Victoria was absolutely fantastic. She saw my son for the first 9 months of his life, and she not only provided phenomenal care for him, but also for myself as a newly postpartum mom. They are very respectful of your decisions as a parent at Well Rooted, and it’s nice to not feel like you’re being gaslit by medical professionals. I like how they have holistic remedies available for purchase as well. They also provided me references to lactation consultants, chiropractors, etc as well. My son is now almost 2 and thankfully very healthy. We love Well Rooted!

We love Well-Rooted Pediatrics. On every visit I feel like Jessica listens to my concerns and cares about my opinions on things regarding my kids. She looks at the whole child and treats the body from the inside out while still knowing there’s a time and place for medicine. With this approach I absolutely trust her and the care she provides for my four kids. Highly recommend, your family will love her too!!
