What’s The Deal With Apeel?

What’s the Scoop on Apeel?

Today, let’s dive into something that’s been buzzing in the food world: Apeel. You might have heard about it, but what’s the real deal? Let’s peel back the layers (pun intended! ) and explore what Apeel means for our health and the well-being of ourselves and our little ones.

  Understanding Apeel

Apeel is like a magic cloak for fruits and veggies . It’s a coating that slows down spoilage, keeping our produce fresher for longer. Sounds great, right? But here’s the not-so-great part: Apeel is made from mono- and diglycerides, the same stuff you find in a lot of  processed foods. And guess what? These are often derived from seed oils like canola and soybean, which carry some not-so-great trans fats.

️‍♂️ Unraveling Apeel’s Mystery

Here’s where it gets a bit murky. Apeel Sciences hasn’t spilled all the beans on what’s in their product. We know it’s got mono- and diglycerides, but what else? And these ingredients come from high-heat, chemically processed plant oils, leaving behind some questionable residues like ethyl acetate, heptane, and even heavy metals. Yikes!

  Different Rules in Different Places

Did you know? The rules about Apeel vary around the globe. In Europe and the UK, they’re super strict about using mono- and diglycerides on organic produce. And even for non-organics, Apeel is only approved for use on fruits and veggies we don’t typically consume the skin of, like avocados, mangoes, and oranges. But in the US, it’s a green light for all types of fruits and veggies. And since Apeel is invisible (no color, smell, or taste), we often can’t tell if our food’s wearing this invisible coat. ‍♀️

Can We Wash It Off?

Here’s the kicker: Apeel doesn’t just rinse away with water. So, if it’s trapping anything sketchy like pesticides or dirt, we’re likely stuck with it. That’s more than a bit concerning when thinking about what our kids are munching on.

The Overexposure Issue

We’re already getting a lot of these emulsifiers in processed foods. Add Apeel to the mix, and we might be overdoing it. This could mess with our metabolism and gut health, especially in our little ones.

Health Concerns

Here’s the serious bit: Mono- and diglycerides can lead to health issues like hardening of the arteries and pancreatitis. Unfortunately, we are already exposed to many in the standard American diet full of processed convenience items. Now, we’re adding them to our fruits and veggies… Plus, the solvents used in making mono- and diglycerides can affect our nervous system, causing headaches and nausea. And let’s not forget, some of these additives are carcinogenic.

Is Apeel Really Natural?

Despite the claims, mono- and diglycerides aren’t exactly gifts  sent straight from Mother Nature. They’re synthetic and highly processed. While they’re considered safe by the authorities, we’re still figuring out what they really do to our bodies in the long run. ‍♂️

  Making Smart Choices

As Apeel makes its way into our grocery stores, it’s more important than ever to stay informed and make choices that align with our health values. Opting for local, organic, and chemical-free foods is a great way to go. Remember, just because something is deemed “safe” doesn’t mean we shouldn’t ask questions and do our own research.

My first time with the Oakbrook office and staff has been the kind of experience I’ve longed for. Although I have only been there twice(in one week), it’s the most genuine communication I’ve had from a doctor’s office. I’ve been searching for a practice that treats our family as more than just a number, and I’m truly grateful for the care and attention to detail they’ve provided. The follow-up phone calls and the extra check-up were instrumental in demonstrating their practice’s excellent understanding of bedside manners and true thoughtfulness that his sickness matters.

2nd opinion was more than what I expected. I not only was able to explain symptoms but also get educated on how to resolve the issue. So so worth the drive as we live 1 hour away. I highly recommend them and Victoria was a pleasure to get help from.

Where do I begin????? I’m going to begin by telling you all a little back history about how I found this Diamond. I went through the wringer with my toddler since the day she was born. Doctors under the sun couldn’t give me anything but short answers, I paid so much money for better care and I was tossed around with questions and no answers. My baby was in need of somebody to just examine her properly and no matter how hard I looked it seemed impossible. that was in the past, until Jessica welcomed us with open arms, found the problem and continues to bless us with answers to our concerns by addressing them in a way that nobody ever has. We have seen major improvements in our daughter by following everything Jessica says, if you got to this page, I highly reccomend her. My daughter has seen so many doctors, been poked and pronged so many times that she doesn’t even like to be seen anymore. Trauma. But Jessica is patient, and kind. And she will find a way to get them to like her. My kid smiled for her and that was enough for me. And our kids have the same exact birthday, which felt like another sign to me!
Through our office visit, never once did I feel rushed or nervous. She never judged us for our choices as parents, and she always led us into a better path. Because of Jessica our daughter has a chance at a positive life with a promising future and I could not be more happy to have found her. This woman knows her stuff and she actually cares about people. I’ve never met someone in the medica field that I trust more than I trust her. I don’t know what I would do without her, I feel so grateful and I literally cried after our first visit when she gave us answers… and that’s how much I got out of her visit. Happy tears!!! Please don’t ever leave Jessica!!!Thank you Jessica.
